Part 1 : Drag and Drift Shop in Sunway

Honestly i can't recalled the first day i am working in ML. But if i am not mistaken it should be around August four years ago. Hmmm that really makes me among the seniors in ML.

But there are lots more staff here working longer than me of course. And some have been here for a life span of about 10 years ++. Now that is what i call long long time. I am merely a peanut compare to them. Hahaha they have spend all their young age here...contributing their knowledge, ideas and hardwork to this company and successfully position this company to where it should be now. Quite an achievement really and many of them have been rewarded very well too. Sometimes i do envy them for what they have been through and acknowledged.

And over the years many ideas are presented to the bosses of ML but none have really gone through (though my bosses always said they are always open for ideas or suggestions). Do they? =P Maybe in their perception we are still young and green, and never have that much of experience in this industry. Well maybe they are right or maybe there are wrong. Very subjective of course. But if you ask me personally i would say one shouldn't measure people by their age or etc. We are young kids so we are moving in faster pace. Agree? And i believe my colleagues have presented many good ideas over the years. Some are very very good and its a sure win!! But still the final decision is up to the bosses of course. After all we are just work for living.

Anyhow and anyhow last year - after much persuasion i must say....one idea does go through. The proposal have been approved and yes that's right...now we had another shop/branch in Sunway - Drag and Drift Performance. It is open only last month July and so far it has been very encouraging.

Will cover more about this shop in the next post. Need to do work now. =)

Hydraulic Shock Absorbers: Basic principles

Shock absorbers are an important part of automobile and motorcycle suspensions, aircraft landing gear, and the supports for many industrial machines. In a vehicle, it reduces the effect of traveling over rough ground, leading to improved ride quality. Without shock absorbers, the vehicle would have a bouncing ride, as energy is stored in the spring and then released to the vehicle, possibly exceeding the allowed range of suspension movement. Control of excessive suspension movement without shock absorption requires stiffer (higher rate) springs, which would in turn give a harsh ride.

Hydraulic Shock Absorbers: Basic principles
Hydraulic Shock Absorbers utilize liquid fluid to convert mechanical energy into thermal energy. The dampening or shock absorber action is facilitated by the shock absorber's fluid being displaced by a piston displaced by mechanical action that forces the fluid through a orifice(s) or flow restrictor(s).

In the standard twin-tube shock absorber design, a piston slides inside an oil-filled cylinder. Calibrated holes in the piston allow oil to pass between the upper and lower parts of the cylinder thereby damping the oscillation of the spring.

As the piston moves up and down, forcing the oil through the holes, the piston rod moves in and out of the tube. As it moves in and out, the rod changes the volume available to the oil. When the volume is reduced, there is momentarily an excess of oil: this excess is forced back in the oil reservoir (reserve tube) through the base valve.

When the rod moves out again, it creates a vacuum and a volume of oil equivalent to the displaced rod is drawn through valves in the piston and, at the same time, through an orifice in the base valve.

And now for the commercial ad part =P We have over hundred of shock absorbers available here at our shop for you to choose from. And what's best, we are now promoting our own brand of absorber to suite your need - D&D absorber. A lot of customers are giving thumbs up and good rating for it already and you could be next. It comes with warranty too!!

Ace Drift Challenge 2010 Round 3: 7-8 August

Drifting are quickly becoming the fastest growing extreme sport all over the world! Agree?

And tell me who wouldn't get excited when they watch drifting...the crowd, the cheer, the smoke, the speed, the girls and etc! If you ever try drifting before, you'll know the amazing feeling of a controlled slide at terrifying speeds that make it so addictive. =P

Doing it with my current own car is not possible considering how small cc it is. Lol. Few of my friends here suggested i buy a old chunk of corolla ke70 and then turn it into a monster. Will consider this option definitely but not any time soon. Lots of things to consider of course.

Anyhow there will be a Drift Challenge in Malacca this coming weekend. Since i have missed both the earlier rounds so perhaps this time around i will head to Malacca to have a watch this round instead. Hopefully it will be an interesting one.

Project Hachiroku - AE86 F20C Conversion

This is probably the most difficult conversion to complete as there are a number of issues you would need to over come first.First and biggest issue with the F20c is the physical height of the engine. the F20C is actually one of the tallest engines going around, and in the rather shallow AE86 engine bay that can be an issue.

Fitting the engine is not so much of an issue nowadays as there are a number of companies offering off the shelf F20C conversion kits available. Companies such as HOT STAFF and John’s Superior Performance make the engine a direct bolt in affair.

The second biggest issue is the price of the engine itself. It does cost more than other engines that you can swap into a hachiroku.

The other issues for the swappers and the rest of the right hand drive world is the fact that the exhaust and intake are now on opposite sides to the 4A-GE. So that means the extractors and exhaust system now run down right next to the brake master and clutch master cylinders. Not so much of an issue but there is minimal room which to run a decent exhaust manifold.

Other things like the battery and ignition location will also have to be moved. Again not an issue, as if you were performing a conversion such as this those items should have already been dealt with. One other thing that is an issue is that fact that nothing will wire up to the factory AE86, albeit simple things like aircon and the like will wire up but items like guages and the speed signal wont work any more.

So whats so good about an F20C? Apart from the fact its the worlds most powerful mass produced 4cyl N/A engine, and makes more power per cubic centimetre (CC) than any other engine! 250hp (175kw) 9500rpm redline, a sweet shifting 6sp gearbox and a glorious VTEC note!

Just take that in for a second… Now imagine that in a little lightweight AE86! The Honda S2000 which the F20c comes from weighs in at portly 1270kg. your average AE86 weighs 950kg’s. The S2000 is no slug, but is quite heavy for what it is. So with the F20C in a car weighing 300kg’s less, your little AE86 is going to scream!!

There is quite a bit of aftermarket support for the F20C engine, and no doubt could be employed in an AE86. Certainly fitting a set of Quads to it would solve a lot of the intake piping issues…This is quite a popular conversion in the US as they do not have as many issues as we do with their Left Hand Drive cars. The US also gets the fantasticaly just as powerful but much torquier F22C. The F22C revs just as hard but only to 8500rpm instead of the sky high 9500rpm of the F20C.

The 6 speed gearbox is one of the sweetest shifting things you’ll ever use. It just slots in place, doesnt slop about and very very smooth. The stick like all the others will pop up near the handbrake. There is however a few people developing a bell housing to mate a W5x box to the F20C engines to make the conversion that much easier again.

Happy swapping everyone! =)

Introducing the new e-commerce website - with online payment included

Yes its me. I am in charge of maintaining the website, new media and also the direction ML sales are going. Sort of like marketing + advertising kinda job. If you ask me whether it is nice job i would say yes it is but my package are really like a bundle. You tend to know and cover lots of things but at the same time it really nothing. All merely at the surface only.

And i believe many of you know that when you are buying things in bundle...it won't always be good right? Out of the 10 apples you are buying definitely at least one will be rotten. But hey you can't complain as it does come cheap. You can't expect much don't you? Agree? So same case applicable to me...when you are not good at what you are doing then you can't bargain. Hahaha you can pm me if you want to know what i am getting for my salary. Definitely not here ya or else i will be chopped. Lol. If you are good at what you are doing like other staff here then its different stories. ML have been treated them very well. =)

My company do have vacancy now for sales person and if you are interested then please apply. It is not as glamorous job as you might think it is. No babes. no cool cars and certainly no party like you have seen in movies (if you think it is then congratulations! you have been brainwashed) but again it is a nice good job. You tend to learn a lot here really and AGAIN it is a good good job. So please apply.

Anyhow back to the main topic....ok so i have proposed to my company that we should introduces e-commerce website with online payment facilities. Many are still doubting whether it is workable here in malaysia afterall it is USED auto parts. I am not 100% sure myself but i do know online sales are uptrending and its very potential. So we don't mind being the first few that introduces this system in malaysia especially in used auto parts sector. I believe with enough patient, hardwork and research it can be realized. What do you think...is it workable?

Having said that - our online shop is on progress now. You will be expecting a complete e-commerce website with payment gateway very soon. Probably in 2-3 weeks time only. The prices that we offer here definitely very cheap. We want to promote this healthy and potential system so we will put the lowest price possible.

And for overseas customer - kindly check with us on the shipping freight before you proceed to transfer us the money! There are few other things that we need to clarify beforehand. It is very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

I had a little chat with my boss and instead of making this blog looks like another corporate website or product showcase - this blog will be about ME! working here in Mun Lee Auto Parts.

I have been here for years and really been through lots of things i might to say. Be it rain or shine. So this will be my story and i will be sharing with you all the insights and my journey in Mun Lee Auto Parts.

But of course this blog still belong to the company so from time to time i will be posting new arrival, updates and special offer here. You can choose to follow us either in the official website or here - not a problem. But it will definitely be more interactive here. Hahaha.

Feel free to ask questions or give suggestion. I will try my best for you to serve you. ^_^

Here are some photos that i am required to snap yesterday. Not sure the reason why they took these engines out but it is really a small portion of sr20dets that we have here. Plenty more on the shelves. Look at the 3sge too!! I believe these are enough to make people drools. Hahaha.

Sometimes i wish ML going to get a SLR camera. With a wide angle lens of course so that it will be easier for me to take all these photos.

Anyone can spot the differences? S15, S14 or S13 Sr20det?
